Corabia to Zimnicea and the on to Ruse

Came into hotel restaurant in Corabia for evening meal and met Julie, David and Nick who had got their 9 meter motor launch moored outside the hotel. They had come down through France, got into the European canal system before joining the Danube. They are going on to The Black Sea, and then on to Istanbul. Spent a very enjoyable evening listening to their sailing adventures. Rounded off with a couple of 'Tots' of scotch supplied by David. 50 odd miles on to Zimnicea where I had breakfast with Dieter and Doris, a German couple who are doing Eurovelo Route 6. Th problem with Dieter, he looked like Himmler! On to Ruse, a very nice city, where I'm having a day off before leaving the Danube and heading south through Bulgaria and then into Turkey.

  1. I hope Dieter does not read your blog. Could be cause of international incident! Bit like the drift wood and polystyrene missile sent from Lesbos to Turkey!

  2. Got you! Just in time for som advice - you might need it before entering Bulgaria. But first beware of the Danube: as you might have heard/read/understood, due to heavy rains in central/eastern Europe the Danube is coming your way instead of the other way around!
When in Bulgaria, do as the Bulgarians do, and ask them what they think about Holland. When you meet a big smile, realize that the other day we had a big political storm in parliament about millions of Euro's leaking to Bulgarian families, due to the 'Burgarian allowance fraude'. How does it work: send a fellow Bulgarian to Holland, let him register as a 'fake citizen' in whatever town. He will get there a digital ID which allows him to apply for (rent)allowances for this year - and several years before. The tax office will pay and checks only afterwards, when the money has gone! Up to € 8000 for every individual. Thank you Holland! You should tell the Greek!
Meanwhile, I'm glad I found you (and blog) roaming through Europe- at last. Will read/write more. Have a good time and take care.

    1. Great to hear from fellow Dandalos. They are bright people, these Bulgarians, but they haven't told me about this wonderful scheme - but I am glad you have!

  3. Just come from another blog being written by a very nice German couple called Dieter and Doris who are doing the Eurovelo Route 6 and the charectors they have met on the way. Seems they met this Forest Gump type who was wandering across Europe on an old bike! He was reported to be frequenting bars until late and night and generally stumbling around in a confused manner muttering 'it wouldn't do for me' repeatedly and 'it's not for me to say' on other occasions. What a small world!

I've been trying to trace your route on my Michelin Europe map but the scale changes from page to page so it's rather incomplete. However I'm in awe of the feet having looked at the place you've been, They must be worn in by now? It looks as if you could easily be in Lesbos before we fly back so if you don't make it we will take it personally. There are several beers waiting a Jimmeys!!! Best wishes Burdy and Jools
